Accreditations and Quality Assurance

DNA Solutions is accredited to the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB) standard for relationship testing. This accreditation is the gold standard for DNA paternity testing laboratories. Accreditation is granted only to laboratories that achieve high quality performance for relationship testing which follows strict quality guidelines that cover all aspects of parentage testing from initial specimen collection to the issuance of the final results.

ISO 17025:2017

ISO 17025:2017 is an internationally recognized accreditation and is accepted world-wide. It encompasses all of the requirements that testing laboratories must meet if they wish to demonstrate that they operate a Quality Management System, are technically competent, and are able to generate technically valid results. This accreditation is issued by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB).

A QAS accredited laboratory is a DNA laboratory that receives national (United States) recognition within a forensic science community for meeting FBI Director's Quality Assurance Standards. This accreditation ensures that the work performed by such an accredited lab is performed in accordance with the provisions of the Federal DNA Identification Act. Genetic results issued by a QAS accredited lab pursuant to these standards are therefore eligible to be uploaded into the CODIS DNA Database, the FBI's program of support for criminal justice DNA databases. This accreditation is issued by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB).

DNA Solutions is one of a select group of laboratories in the United States authorized by the New York State Department of Health to perform parentage/identity testing (non-forensics) using DNA on cases originating from the State of New York. DNA Solutions obtained this approval after rigorous inspection and proficiency testing by the New York Department of Health.

What Is Laboratory Accreditation?

  • Provides formal recognition to laboratories that demonstrate technical competency
  • Maintains this recognition through periodic evaluations to ensure continued compliance with requirements
  • Provides laboratories with the opportunity to determine whether work is performed correctly and to appropriate standards
  • Identifies areas for improvement through discussion and detailed reporting
  • Monitors areas for improvement through follow-up action

Quality Assurance & Quality Control

DNA Solutions has a QA Manual and a formal QA Program in compliance with AABB, NYDOH, ISO 17025 and the FBI QAS. The QA program consists of a set of standard operating procedures that cover the following QA Systems: Test Methodology, Traceability, Quality Control, Training, Competency, Proficiency, Internal Audits, CAPA, Instrument Qualification, Supplier Qualification, Documentation Control, Change Control, Customer Complaints, Method Validation, Records Retention and Safety.

QA Program

Quality Assurance (QA) is an independent monitoring function of the operations, reporting directly to the President. Quality Control (QC) is the function performed during the tests to monitor precision, accuracy, and other analytical testing criteria. QC is performed by the analysts as they are performing the tests.
