Avuncular testing is used when the sample for the alleged father cannot be obtained. The child is then compared to the alleged father's siblings (the child's alleged aunt or uncle). Testing can be performed between just the child and one of aunts/uncles, although we recommend providing a sample for the mother to improve the statistics and limit the chance of obtaining inconclusive results.
Unlike Paternity testing Avuncular testing is a second degree relationship and could require additional samples to obtain a conclusive result. The mother of the child is STRONGLY recommended for all relationship tests to improve the statistics and limit the possibility of additional testing.
Conclusive - Results that fall in the ranges of 0.00-9.99% or 90-99.99% provide enough statistical evidence to confidently report the results as excluded or cannot be excluded.
Inconclusive - Results that fall 10-89.99% do not provide enough statistical evidence to confidently report the results as excluded or cannot be excluded. At this time your results will recommend providing additional participants. This will help drive the results towards conclusive results.
Waiting to receive the results can be nerve racking and once you receive the results you can be overwhelmed by the numbers and scientific lingo. To help quickly understand we want to point out this easy identifier.
Probability (w=50) = 0.00-9.99% is on the unrelated end
Probability (w=50) = 10%-89.9% is inconclusive and additional parties are required
Probability (w=50) = 90.0-99.99% is on the related end
